What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a holistic approach to health that focuses on the function of the spine and its close connection to the central nervous system. It is not merely about treating pain or isolated symptoms, but primarily about identifying and addressing the underlying causes.

The Interaction Between the Spine and the Nervous System

The spine’s primary function is to protect the spinal cord. As a vital part of the central nervous system, the spinal cord is responsible for all information transmission between the brain and the body. All processes—from organ function and sensory perception to complex movements—are controlled via this pathway. This is why smooth information transmission is so crucial for health.

However, various factors can lead to restricted mobility in individual segments of the spine. This can have a direct impact on information transmission within the central nervous system. Similar to static on a line, information can no longer be transmitted precisely from the body to the brain. Such dysfunctional movements, which lead to faulty communication in the nervous system, are referred to in chiropractic as subluxations.

The main focus of chiropractic treatment is to identify and treat these subluxations.

Treating the Root Cause

Symptoms like pain rarely occur without a reason. They are often like the “last straw that breaks the camel’s back.” Typically, a problem builds up in the body over a long period of time before it manifests as noticeable discomfort.

If only the symptom is temporarily relieved without addressing the actual cause, there is a high probability that the discomfort will recur after some time.

Chiropractic care therefore addresses the root causes: Through targeted techniques, the normal mobility of the spine is restored to enable smooth communication within the nervous system.

Healing Takes Time

It is important to understand that healing is a process. If subluxations have been present for an extended period, the body needs time to regenerate, learn new movement patterns, and show lasting improvement. This process is highly individual and can vary depending on the specific condition and the body’s initial state.
